It is not enough to say that the President found his voice Thursday night at the Joint Session. He never lost that. The President showed his muscles and flexed them. His plan amounted to a series of offers he dared Republicans to refuse. (I especially like the $4,000 tax credit to hire the long-term unemployed--the bill I introduced this week has a $5,000 tax credit.) When times are tough people can easily feel abandoned. The President's serial accommodations to Republicans were draining his base of their enthusiasm. Thursday night, he got that blood pumping again.
