100 Employers to Meet Face-to-Face with D.C. Residents at Norton Job Fair, Tomorrow

August 10, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that 100 employers with jobs across the District of Columbia-region will be at her 19th annual Job Fair to meet with D.C. residents tomorrow, Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the Washington Convention Center (800 Mount Vernon PL NW, Exhibit Hall C). Doors will open at 9:00 a.m., and attendees will be let in on a first-come, first-served basis. Job-seekers must bring proof of D.C. residency (photo ID, voter registration card, pay stub, utility bill, or lease).

The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the workshop “Building Your Contacts: Selling Yourself to Employers,” which will feature workforce development professionals sharing their best practices for networking to land a job. The morning event will be topped off by a Dress for Success Fashion Show.

The fair will begin immediately after the workshop and will feature 100 employers from a wide range of sectors and industries, local and regional private, federal, state, and county agencies, along with construction, retail, labor unions, restaurants, hotels and tourism, law enforcement, apprentice organizations, non-profits, and others. Residents will be able to meet face-to-face with employers, a rare opportunity in the overwhelmingly online application environment. The fair also will feature stations offering one-on-one consulting on applying for a job with workforce development professionals from the D.C. Department of Employment Services, Greater Washington Urban League, UDC-CC Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning, and Dress for Success Washington, D.C.

Comprehensive health screenings, including HIV testing, will be provided by the University of the District of Columbia.
