Norton Pays Tribute to Former Shadow Representative Ray Browne

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, who learned of the death of former Shadow Representative Ray Browne yesterday when she spoke to his wife Barbara, issued the following statement today.

"Ray Browne brought the high energy and strong determination that made him a successful businessman to the DC Voting Rights fight. But he brought something more to the fight for voting rights in the dedication and zeal he reserved for the cause and the principles he deeply cherished. Ray took an unpaid post with no staff and made it work for our city and advanced the great cause that meant so much to him and District residents. Ray's contributions to his hometown did not begin or end with voting rights, but he will always be remembered for giving all he had to this overriding issue for our city. As we approach our vote in the Congress, we especially regret Ray's loss, but we will remember his outstanding contributions to get us there."
