Norton Says Latest Security Incidents at the White House Show Urgent Need For Security Funds in DHS Appropriations Bill

March 2, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), a senior member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, today released the following statement on two separate incidents that occurred outside the White House grounds last night and this morning:

"As attempts to intrude into the White House increase with two more incidents, the need to address security issues and implement the recommendations of the special Secret Service Protective Mission Panel becomes more urgent. The increased attention to the Secret Service from Congress and the Protective Mission Panel's work have probably had the effect of the making the Secret Service more alert. They were on the job this time. However, the Department of Homeland Security appropriations bill for the remainder of this fiscal year is passed, allowing the fence to be raised, as recommended by the panel, and the number of Secret Service officers and agents to be increased, the White House will remain vulnerable."
