Norton Statement on Shooting at Holocaust Museum
June 10, 2009
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) issued the following statement today about the shooting at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum:
"I want to express my deepest condolences to the family of Stephen Tyrone John, who died in service to the public and the Holocaust Museum. The random gun violence that has ravaged the nation in recent weeks came to a public building in Washington today. That building was established to encourage us action against senseless killings like what we saw today.
"The irony is that this is exactly the kind of gun violence I most feared would be bought to the nation's capital if the House and Senate allowed the gun attachment to remain on the D.C. House Voting Rights bill.
"What will it take to make the Congress and the American people respond to the firestorm of gun violence in our country?"
