Norton to Give Keynote Address for DC Advocacy Partners Graduation Ceremony, Tomorrow

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will give the keynote address at a graduation ceremony for the DC Advocacy Partners (DC AP) leadership training program at the University of the District of Columbia tomorrow, Saturday, September 13, at 1:00 p.m. Graduates from the program have been trained in advocacy communications for disability rights, so as to better engage with their local and federal representatives to influence policy that supports an inclusive environment and better services for those living with developmental disabilities. Norton said DC AP has done important work in the District of Columbia, and she considers it a privilege to congratulate the newest graduating class of advocates. Norton, a former chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, is a long-time defender of disability rights, and she is the co-chair of the Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus and the mother of a daughter with Down Syndrome.

DC AP is a group that trains advocates and family members of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to work with lawmakers on issues that affect them in the District. The free, nine-month program is offered through several of DC AP's partners at different locations in D.C., and is funded through a grant from the DC Developmental Disabilities Council.
