Norton to Speak at National Cannabis Festival, Saturday

April 22, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will offer remarks at the inaugural National Cannabis Festival tomorrow, Saturday, April 23, 2016, at 2:30 p.m., at the Festival Grounds at RFK Stadium (2400 East Capitol Street SE).

“The District of Columbia has led the way in recognizing marijuana legalization as a civil rights issue, considering that 91% of all marijuana arrests here are of blacks, despite the same level of use between blacks and whites,” Norton said. “The tide is changing on marijuana across the country, and Congress needs to catch up. They can start by removing the undemocratic appropriations rider that blocks D.C. from spending its local funds to responsibly regulate and tax cannabis. I look forward to speaking at this inaugural National Cannabis Festival to urge action on bipartisan, common sense legislation that reflects the new American majority’s views on rescheduling and legalizing cannabis.”
