Norton to Tour Senior Villages and Wellness Centers Across D.C., Starting Tomorrow at Congress Heights Wellness Center
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that in lieu of hosting only one annual Senior Legislative Day, Norton will visit seniors where they live across the District of Columbia at community senior villages and wellness centers to hear from them about their priorities and present updates about congressional issues affecting them. Norton said that she chose to tour D.C. senior villages and wellness centers instead of hosting a one-day event in order to increase the number of seniors she could meet with and to avoid requiring them to travel to an external location. Norton will start her tour by visiting Congress Heights Wellness Center (3500 Martin Luther King Jr Ave SE) on Friday, July 28, 2017, from noon – 2:00 p.m. Norton is scheduled to visit Capitol Hill Village on Monday, August 7, and the Bernice Fontenau Senior Wellness Center on Wednesday, August 9. Norton's office will announce further visits as they are scheduled.
Norton's visit to the Congress Heights Wellness Center will feature a presentation by a professional staffer from the House Ways and Means Committee about how the proposed Republican bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act would harm seniors, including those who receive benefits from Medicare and Medicaid. Norton will also join residents in a wellness exercise, led by wellness center staff, to encourage seniors to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle.
"The approach of the 52nd anniversary of Medicare and Medicaid being signed into law and the current health care debate make this a good time to meet with D.C. seniors," Norton said. "I want to hear their priorities and concerns about the pending Trumpcare bill and other congressional matters that concern them."
