WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) applauded the Federal Railroad Administration’s (FRA) decision to “review and refine [Washington Union Station Expansion] project elements in cooperation with…key stakeholders.” This decision came after Norton was able to get a provision included in the report accompanying the fiscal year 2021 appropriations bill that directed FRA to continue working with the District of Columbia on the Union Station Expansion Project (Project) and to consider the feedback of all stakeholders, including residents of affected neighborhoods, in its planning process.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released a letter she sent requesting that Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin withdraw the proposed rule restricting public access to the Washington Channel next to Fort McNair in the District of Columbia and prohibit the issuance of any similar proposed rule. Norton also announced she will introduce legislation to block this proposed rule. Norton hosted a public meeting on the proposed rule on January 27th, where D.C. residents overwhelmingly opposed the rule.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – After Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) sent a letter to Chief Judge Anita M. Josey-Herring of the D.C. Superior Court asking for an increase in the court’s eviction filing fee and for the court to open a public comment period on the fee, the court last week announced a public comment period on the fee that will last until April 12, 2021. In Norton’s letter, she cited a study finding that the current $15 filing fee for evictions is $91 below the national median.

Norton has focused her congressional committee work on transportation and infrastructure, most recently as a primary architect of the Moving Forward Act. The subcommittee’s jurisdiction over transit, including the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) rail and bus systems, is of particular importance to the District of Columbia and the national capital region.
