Annual Norton Job Fair to Give D.C. Residents Access to Nearly 100 D.C.-Area Employers From All Sectors, Friday

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced nearly 100 employers have registered for her annual Job Fair that will be held tomorrow, Friday, August 21, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Convention Center (800 Mount Vernon PL NW). The event will begin with workshops, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., on the federal job search process, building a superior resume, and best practices for job interviews. The morning event will be topped off by a Dress for Success Fashion Show. The Job Fair, from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., will feature employers from virtually every sector from around the D.C. region. Among the sectors represented will be retail, tourism, restaurants, education and trade schools, workforce development organizations, public safety agencies, health care, finance, construction, legal services, the federal government, state governments, and the military. The Job Fair will also offer free health screenings to attendees. The event is free, but open to D.C. residents only. Job-seekers must bring proof of D.C. residency (photo ID, voter registration card, pay stub, utility bill, or lease).

The workshops will be led by:

  • Jennifer Tiller, Director of America Works DC, will talk about how to give a strong and effective interview.
  • Dwight Marable, HR Specialist at the D.C. Department of Employment Services, will give tips and advice about writing a resume.
  • Nnenna Uzochukwu, Senior Human Resources/Communications Advisor at the Office of Personnel Management, will discuss the federal job search process, creating an online job profile, and navigating the USAJobs website.
