WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that her annual Job Fair—free and open only to District of Columbia residents—will be held Thursday, August 11, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center (801 Mount Vernon PL NW). The fair will begin with a workshop from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. to provide residents with best practices for networking to get a job or pursue a better job. From 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., the fair will feature employers from a wide range of sectors and industries, including the private sector, federal and state agencies, construction, retail, labor unions, restaurants, hotels and tourism, law enforcement, apprentice organizations, non-profits, and others. The fair will also feature stations offering one-on-one consulting on applying for a job with workforce development professionals from the D.C. Department of Employment Services, Greater Washington Urban League, UDC-CC Workforce Development and Lifelong Learning, and Dress for Success Washington, D.C.
Comprehensive health screenings, including HIV testing, will be provided by the University of the District of Columbia. Job-seekers must bring proof of D.C. residency (photo ID, voter registration card, pay stub, utility bill, or lease).
“This year’s job fair is not only about offering unemployed residents the opportunity to break through by meeting and speaking with active D.C.-area employers,” Norton said. “We are also encouraging employed D.C. residents who want to get a better job, or even pursue a new career, to attend. Our job fair is a one-stop shop that residents should not miss!”
