Norton Asks Acting D.C. Postmaster for Plan to Address Delayed & Undelivered Mail in D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) sent a letter to Acting District of Columbia Postmaster Eddie Masangcay about the significant increase in delayed and undelivered mail throughout the District that D.C. residents have reported to her office. In the letter, Norton asked for a response in writing by April 30, 2021, detailing how the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) plans to address the problem.

“Delayed or undelivered mail is always concerning, but it’s particularly problematic during the current pandemic, when D.C. residents are relying more than ever on mail,” Norton said. “Moreover, missing and undelivered mail often contain life-saving medications, tax and financial documents, and bills. The consequences are affecting the health and livelihoods of D.C. residents, and USPS must act swiftly to fix the problem.”

I write because residents throughout the District of Columbia are experiencing a significant increase in delayed and undelivered mail.  This is simply unacceptable.  I ask that you respond in writing by April 30, 2021, regarding how the U.S. Postal Service will fix this urgent problem in the District.
