Norton Hearing on GSA 2010 Spending Plan Will Hold Agency Accountable on Stimulus and Market Conditions
July 7, 2009
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), chair, subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings, and Emergency Management, today announced a hearing entitled, "GSA Construction and Leasing: Stimulus Spending, Energy Goals and Making a Down Market Work for Taxpayers," on Wed., July 8, 3:00p.m., room 2167 in the Rayburn House Office Building.
As chair of the subcommittee, Norton has sought to maximize the current buyer's market for leasing and construction to get taxpayers the best deals when GSA provides the resources to maintain current property and acquire new assets. Norton said, "The government never allocates funding for the GSA budget unless it must. Therefore we will be looking to see if the emphasis this year on necessary construction projects and other new proposals mean that GSA understands its unique potential to assist in both stimulating and stabilizing the troubled real estate market."
GSA has submitted seven construction projects totaling $498.8 million in its FY 2010 budget, and four lease requests for properties.
