WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will speak at an event hosted by the TransSTEM Academy that will bring together 75 General Electric (GE) African American Forum volunteers and more than 200 Cardozo High School and Howard University Middle School of Mathematics & Science students for hands-on lessons in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects today, Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 11:30 a.m., at the Francis L. Cardozo Education Campus (1200 Clifton St NW). Students and GE professionals will take part in lab demos, problem-solving and interactive activities related to flight simulation, coding and computer programming, robotics, and conflict resolution. Students will also receive advice and guidance on STEM college courses and careers.

“I thank the wonderful GE African American Forum volunteers for spending time with our students and showing them that with hard work, they can achieve a dream career working in STEM fields,” Norton said. “Getting a head start on a STEM education will help D.C.’s kids become the next generation of engineers and scientists that our city and our country need.”
