WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that her annual Job Fair – free and open only to District of Columbia residents – will be held Friday, August 21, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Washington Convention Center (800 Mount Vernon PL NW – between 7th and 9th Streets NW). The Fair will begin with a job hunting tips workshop from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. to provide residents with best practices on preparing for an interview, managing an online profile, building a resume, and much more. The workshop will be topped off by a Dress for Success Fashion Show. The Job Fair, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., will feature employers from a wide range of sectors and industries, including the private sector, federal and state agencies, construction, retail, labor unions, restaurants, hotels and tourism, law enforcement, apprentice organizations, non-profits, and others. An additional bonus for residents is comprehensive health screenings, including HIV testing, provided by the University of the District of Columbia. Job-seekers must bring proof of D.C. residency (photo ID, voter registration card, pay stub, utility bill, or lease).

"Our annual job fair has been so helpful to residents that they ask me when it is coming months in advance," Norton said. "Residents get what job hunting today seldom provides – a one-stop shop to actually meet and speak with active D.C.-area employers, all the while honing critical job skills. We are trying to not only make it easier for D.C. residents to get a head start on the many jobs in this city that often go to regional residents, but also instigate more reverse migration to jobs in the region."
