As Shutdown Ends, Norton to Hold a Community Conversation with Friends of Kingman Park, Tonight

October 17, 2013

WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will hold a Norton in Your Neighborhood with the Friends of Kingman Park Community Association at Saint Benedict the Moor Church (320 21st Street NE), from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Norton will brief residents on current congressional issues affecting them, including the bill signed yesterday to end the federal government shutdown and particularly its provision to allow D.C. to spend its local funds for the full fiscal year while the federal government must function on a three-month continuing resolution. She will also discuss her new role as the Democratic leader of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee and how it will benefit the District, unusually positive progress on D.C. budget autonomy, and the Affordable Care Act, among other issues. Above all, Norton said, she wants to hear feedback from her constituents.

"Last night, the city got a historic first – it can spend its local funds for a full fiscal year, while the federal government is stuck in a three-month temporary fix," said Norton. "During our community conversation this evening, I will update D.C. residents on this and many other issues and developments that directly affect them."
