Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) will host an unusual Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) forum featuring famed Life Style TV host and restaurateur B. Smith and her top chef, James G. Paige II, who grew up in the District's Ward 8 community and learned cooking initially from his father before earning a Culinary Arts degree from Johnson and Wales University in Rhode Island and a degree in Nutritional Science from Howard University. The public is invited to the forum, "B. Smith and Her Top Chef: A Delicious Demonstration of Healthy Eating," held Thursday,Sept. 25, 1-3 p.m., in Room 140B, L Street Blg., Washington Convention Center, 801 Mt. Vernon Pl., NW. Chef Paige will prepare a delicious and healthy dish while he and B. Smith engage in running commentary on how to eat and live healthy. They will share the prepared dish with the audience.
Norton said, "Talking about obesity in children and adults alone does not produce the necessary effect quickly enough. I hope that seeing B. Smith and her talented, young chef, raised here by parents who inspired his career, will help inspire the audience with a tasty dish and knowledgeable commentary, and a lot of fun!"
The forum is part of the Congresswoman's work in promoting healthy lifestyles to help eliminate the obesity epidemic among children and adults here and nationwide. The Congresswoman, who race walks and lifts weights, has introduced the Lifelong Improvements in Food and Exercise (LIFE) Act to combat obesity and sedentary lifestyles. This year, she also sponsored the Children's Health Federal Trade Commission (FTC) Authority Restoration Act to restore the FTC's authority to regulate the marketing of junk food advertisements that promote unhealthy eating habits among youth.
