WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will join thousands of residents to commemorate the life of D.C.'s own Anthony "Little Benny" Harley. Little Benny was known for shaping the musical genre known as go-go and is considered one of its founding fathers.

"I am honored to pay tribute to the originality to spring out of Southeast D.C. and Ballou High School that helped to give D.C. a musical identity," said Congresswoman Norton. "Little Benny and his band, Rare Essence, put D.C.'s unique style of funk music on the map."

The memorial service for Little Benny will be held today, June 11, at the Washington Convention Center. The service begins at 11 a.m. Norton is scheduled to speak at 11:15 a.m.
