NORTON TO ATTEND CORETTA SCOTT KING
FUNERAL TUESDAY IN ATLANTA

Washington, DC—The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that Norton will attend the funeral for Coretta Scott King tomorrow.

Norton said, “I am going tomorrow not only out of my own love, friendship, and high regard for Coretta and her work. I know I also will be representing the city, where Coretta Scott King often came and loved and the city that also loved her.” Norton will travel with a congressional delegation scheduled to leave the Rayburn Building Horseshoe at 8:00 tomorrow morning, to board a plane departing from Andrews Air Force at 8:30 AM. The King funeral will take place at noon at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia.

Tens of thousands of mourners have paid their respects, viewing King’s body at the state capitol building in Atlanta and at Ebenezer Baptist Church over the past days. Norton said that she was not surprised at “the endless stream of mourners for the woman who not only carried forward a great man’s work, but won her own place in American history.

Norton and other Members of Congress are expected to arrive back at Andrews Air Force Base around 5:30 tomorrow evening.
