House Passes Appropriations Bill with $380 Million Norton Secured for DHS Consolidation at St. Elizabeths
WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that the House today passed the fiscal year 2023 Financial Services and General Government Appropriations bill, which includes $380 million she secured for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) consolidation project at the St. Elizabeths West Campus in the District of Columbia. Norton defeated an amendment filed by Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) that would have eliminated the funding.
"The DHS consolidation project is immensely important to the federal government as well as to the District of Columbia, where DHS will be consolidated," Norton said. "Currently, many DHS agencies operate from expensive leased spaces across the National Capital Region. Consolidating the headquarters of these agencies on one campus will improve national security coordination and cooperation while saving taxpayer money. DHS consolidation will also lead to more economic activity in D.C., bolstering D.C.'s economy. The funding will go a long way toward completing the project, improving DHS operations, and improving our country's security."
Norton also secured $200 million for DHS consolidation at St. Elizabeths in the House Committee on Appropriations-passed fiscal year 2023 DHS Appropriations bill. She has long supported the consolidation and has secured more than $2 billion for it.
