Lunchtime Music on the Mall to Feature Duke Ellington School of the Arts String Orchestra, Tuesday
WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) welcomes the District of Columbia's Duke Ellington School of the Arts String Orchestra for a Lunchtime Music on the Mall performance tomorrow, Tuesday, June 16, 2015, from noon – 1:00 p.m. on the National Mall, at 7th Street and Jefferson Drive SW. Lunchtime Music on the Mall is produced by a partnership of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities, the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation, and the National Park Service, in conjunction with Norton's office.
The string orchestra is directed by Heather Haughn, an instructor at Duke Ellington. Tomorrow's student performers include: Promise Ashu (violin), Kennedy Peterson (cello), Anna Knudson (violin), Daimon Squier (violin), Andrea Davis (viola), Lalibela Faraba (viola), Jonathan Baxter (bass), Jerome McCoy (viola), Suzanne Aldridge (viola), Murphy Hagerty (bass), Ayanna Rogers (bass), Kyilene Torain (violin), and Bismillah Ba'th (violin). Students will also be joined by recent Duke Ellington alumni.
