Members of Congress and Staff to Learn About the District at “Ask Me About D.C.”

February 22, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – Destination DC, the official convention and tourism corporation for the District of Columbia, in conjunction with Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), will welcome members of Congress and congressional staff to the annual "Ask Me About D.C." fair tomorrow, February 23, 2012, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 345 in the Cannon House Office Building. Guests will get a taste of some of the city's varied eateries, and representatives from tourism and entertainment-related businesses will be on hand to answer questions about the District's tourist attractions, lodging, dining, culture, entertainment, sports activities, and transportation. Norton and Destination DC President and CEO Elliott Ferguson will be available at 1:30 p.m. to meet with the media.

Attendees will get answers to top tourism questions from local experts that they can share with their constituents, learn about D.C.'s museums, theaters, nightlife and sports organizations, discover new neighborhoods for dining, shopping and sightseeing, and taste samples from some of the District's best restaurants at a lunch buffet.

"The District is full of live music, renowned theater, film festivals, dining experiences, museums and all the other ingredients that make D.C. one of the world's premier destinations," Norton said. "At a time when people must make the most of their money, we must attract visitors not only with our unusual array of wonderful free museums and monuments during the day, but also with our entertainment and fun-filled night life too."

Norton keeps tour information and maps in her office to interest even long-time D.C. residents in aspects of the city they might have long overlooked. She also arranges Capitol tours for students through her D.C. Students in the Capitol program, and meets residents in her office during their Capitol tour.
