Metro Crash Hearing Set for July 14th

June 25, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that a hearing on the Metro collision will be held by the Subcommittee on Federal Work Force, Postal Service, and the District of Columbia on July 14th at 2:00. Norton decided to consult with the committee for an early hearing after speaking directly with National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Member Debbie Hersman and Metro General Manager John Catoe on the advisability of a hearing before the investigation is complete. She was advised that the investigation could take more than a year and that the NTSB often testifies before Congress during the course of investigations. Norton said that, because of its overall record, she has confidence in Metro, but there are many questions that can be asked and answered now that will reinforce public confidence in the system and perhaps encourage some further action now by Metro.
