Norton and Gray to Speak as DC Vote Carries the Movement to the White House

June 24, 2011

WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Mayor Vincent Gray will speak at DC Vote's White House Rally for D.C. Democracy at Lafayette Square Park, Saturday June 25, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., where a mix of D.C. residents -- from entire families to activists -- will come together to call on the Obama administration to protect and expand D.C.'s right to full self-government. "It looks like the DC Vote Rally will have something for everybody to do," Norton said, with a protest, music and fun and games for children. "We thank DC Vote for bringing the city out as we prepare to go to the House floor next month to insist on a rider-free D.C. appropriations bill. Saturday will show city energy to back up that demand. I know residents will appreciate that there will be ‘different strokes' for D.C. folks, considering the new and creative ways residents are demanding full democracy, including the temporary D.C. flag tattoo still on my arm!"
