Norton and Her D.C. Commission on Black Men and Boys to Host Hearing on Mentoring Black Boys, June 12
Public Testimony Invited and Encouraged
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and her District of Columbia Commission on Black Men and Boys will host a special hearing, entitled "Black Men Mentoring Black Boys Making the Difference," on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at 6:30 p.m., at 2235 Shannon PL SE (2nd Floor Hearing Room). Norton and the panelists will focus on the importance of mentoring in the Black community, particularly for young men who live in single-mother households. Members of the public are invited to give brief testimony as well.
The hearing's panelists are: Darius Baxter, Co-Founder of Good Projects, who lost his father to gun violence and created afterschool programs and summer camps for youth; Dr. Roger A. Mitchel, Jr., MD, Chair of D.C.'s My Brother's Keeper initiative and the Chief Medical Officer for the District of Columbia; and Kennijah DeVaughn, Mentee and Honor Student at Ron Brown Preparatory High School, who lost two friends to gun violence.
