Norton Announces D.C. Statehood Hearing Details
Norton Expects Large Crowds, Plenty of Spirit as D.C. Residents Fight for Voting Rights and Self-Government
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced logistics and details for District of Columbia residents who plan on attending the first House hearing on D.C. statehood in over 25 years tomorrow, September 19th, at 10:00 a.m. in Rayburn 2154. Norton expects a large turnout for this historic event. Doors at the Rayburn House Office Building open at 7:30 a.m., however, doors to the hearing room (room 2154), will not open until 9:45am.
Details are as follows:
Seating is not guaranteed: The hearing will take place in Rayburn 2154. There will be two overflow rooms with wheelchair-accessible seating. Those overflow rooms are Rayburn 2203 and Rayburn 2247. Again, seating is not guaranteed and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you wish to come to Rayburn, please note there will also be residents gathering outside in Spirt of Justice Park to watch the hearing live.
Ways to Watch: There are several ways to watch the hearing.
First, you can come to the Rayburn House Office Building before the hearing and find a seat. Again, seating will be limited.
Second, there will be a gathering of D.C. residents outside Rayburn at 9:00 AM in Spirit of Justice Park. TVs and speakers will be available to watch the hearing live in the park.
