Norton Announces Details on Washington Channel Public Meeting

January 26, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced details of the public meeting with the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on the proposed rule to restrict public access to the Washington Channel. The meeting will occur Wednesday, January 27, at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom. It will be open to the public, and residents interested in participating should RSVP by emailing NortonEvents@mail.house.gov.

"Congress passed my bill to develop the Southwest Waterfront (the Wharf), which is still in progress, and the Washington Channel is increasingly being used for water taxis and forms of recreation that also provide tax revenue for D.C., such as kayaking, sailing and river events," Norton said. "I negotiated extra time for D.C. residents to comment on the proposed rule, given its implications for the District's economy and recreation. The meeting this Wednesday evening will allow an additional chance to discuss concerns about the rule with the U.S. Army and USACE."
