Norton Announces Funding Victories for D.C. in T&I Committee Bill to be Marked Up Tomorrow

February 9, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), the chair of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, announced today that she got her priorities for transit in D.C. and the national capital region included in the coronavirus relief bill the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure will mark up at 11 a.m. tomorrow.

"This bill includes major priorities for transit in the national capital region," Norton said. "It provides $30 billion overall for transit agencies, including $1.4 billion for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA), $1.5 billion for Amtrak, with $820 million for the Northeast Corridor, and $8 billion for airports, including $81.7 million for Reagan National Airport and $84.2 million for Dulles International Airport. Our city and its closely allied region are heavily dependent on transit and can't recover from COVID-19 without it. I worked hard for comprehensive transit funding, our best hope for relieving the insufferable crowding on our roads."
