Norton Announces National Small Business Week Events
WASHINGTON, D.C. – To highlight the priority she places on small businesses, the office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that Norton will speak and host events this week celebrating National Small Business Week. The District has more than 76,000 small businesses, which employ 47 percent of all workers in D.C. The Office of Advocacy, an independent office within the U.S. Small Business Administration, reports that the District added over 11,000 jobs in 2019 due to small business success.
On Tuesday, Norton will make opening remarks at Facebook's Community Boost event at Union Market on social media tools for small business and later that day will meet with Hayat Brown, LLC, a minority, woman-owned engineering firm headquartered in Ward 8. On Thursday, Norton will meet with several minority-owned small businesses from the District to discuss the business climate and how Congress can further their success.
Norton is also hosting an annual Small Business Fair on June 19th to help residents learn more about starting, maintaining, and expanding their business. Workshop topics last year included social media marketing, financing and credit, government procurement, writing a business plan, and how to become a Certified Business Enterprise.
Media attending may RSVP to jack.miller@mail.house.gov.
