Norton Announces New Coupons for Digital TV Available

March 26, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said today that District residents should quickly request replacement TV Converter Box coupons by contacting the U.S. Department of Commerce, which is accepting requests for replacement coupons from eligible households whose coupons expired without them being able to redeem them and others who need them. Residents may request a coupon by downloading an application at www.DTV2009.gov, calling 1-888-DTV-2009 (1-888-388-2009), mailing an application to P.O. Box 2000, Portland, OR 97208 or faxing an application to 1-877-DTV-4ME2 (1-877-388-4632). Deaf or hard of hearing callers may use 1-877-530-2634 (TTY). The date for the digital conversion was re-set from Feb.17 to June 12, and funds were allocated in the American Recovery Act to provide enough coupons for everyone who had been on the waiting list and for most households that are eligible. The Congresswoman has worked to keep District residents informed about the digital transition, offering demonstrations on how to use the converter box and providing coupons at community events she sponsored last year and earlier this year. Her office received many calls from D.C. residents who had not received coupons they had requested and who feared no coupons would be available to them prior to the digital conversion. The Congresswoman supported the delay in the transition after coupons ran out and it became clear that the public was not prepared for the switch from analog television to digital.
