Norton Announces that D.C. Residents Can Receive Capitol Security Alerts

October 28, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) announced that District of Columbia residents can now receive security alerts from the U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) through AlertDC, D.C.'s emergency notification system. After the January 6th attack on the Capitol, Norton requested that USCP share information with the community surrounding the Capitol about police activity and threats. USCP agreed to explore ways to deliver that information. D.C. residents can now receive information from USCP by signing up for AlertDC at hsema.dc.gov/page/alertdc.

"January 6th brought to light what we've long known: D.C. residents face unique challenges due to living in the nation's capital, including risks to their health and safety," Norton said. "I'm encouraged, however, by USCP's willingness to share these alerts with the District. Any residents concerned with safety related to police activity at or around the Capitol can now sign up for alerts to be delivered to their phones by visiting hsema.dc.gov/page/alertdc. I will continue to urge USCP to share even more information with District residents."
