Norton Appoints New Member to Her Federal Law Enforcement Nominating Commission, Marie Johns

March 6, 2015

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced Marie Johns as the newest member of Norton's Federal Law Enforcement Nominating Commission. The Commission screens and recommends candidates for important federal law enforcement positions in D.C from whom Norton chooses to send to the President as her recommendation. Johns, currently the Managing Member of the law firm Leftwich, LLC, formerly served as President of Verizon, Washington, D.C. She was nominated by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2010 to serve as Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, a position she held from 2010-2013. Johns also is a Trustee of Howard University.

"Marie Johns has had an exemplary career as a business leader and public servant and is a D.C. resident," Norton said. "She will bring sound judgment to our outstanding Federal Law Enforcement Nominating Commission."

President Obama, like President Clinton, granted Norton senatorial courtesy to recommend federal district court judges, the U.S. Attorney, and other federal law enforcement officials in the District. Norton's 17-member Commission of D.C. residents is chaired by Pauline Schneider, a special counsel at Ballard Spahr LLP and former president of the D.C. Bar.
