February 4, 2010

Washington, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, in conjunction with the D.C. Chamber of Congress, today welcomed Members of Congress and congressional staff to her annual "Ask Me About Washington" fair, where representatives from 50 tourism and entertainment-related businesses answered questions about the District's tourists attractions, lodging, dining, culture, entertainment, sports activities, and transportation. Exhibitors from the gamut of D.C. sightseeing activities, entertainment, and nightlife, including Madame Tussauds, the popular wax museum, and a "Theater in the Round" display promoting D.C.'s legitimate theaters, to go-to sites such as the Smithsonian Museums and the Bureau of Engraving. This year, the event also featured live entertainment from Washington Jazz and Tango musicians to shine a spotlight on the city's vibrant club and entertainment scene. "The event this year featured a huge sign saying, ‘Ask Me Anything About Washington'," the Congresswoman said. "The District is full of live music, great musicals, first run theater, film festivals, avant-garde movies, and Jazz festivals. At a time when people must make the most of their money, we must attract visitors not only with our unusual array of wonderful free museums and monuments during the day, but also with our entertainment and fun-filled night life too."

Norton keeps tour information, and maps in her office to interest even long-time D.C. residents in aspects of the city they have long over-looked. She also arranges Capitol Tours for students through her D.C. Students in the Capitol program, and meets residents in her office before or after their Capitol tour. Just ask me," the third-generation Washingtonian said.
