Norton Asks for Regional Briefing on Yesterday’s Metro Incident
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released the following statement regarding yesterday's Metro incident that resulted in one death, two critical injuries, and 84 passengers being treated for smoke inhalation and various injuries:
"My heart goes out to the family and friends of the victim who died during yesterday's tragic events at L'Enfant Plaza station and to those who were hospitalized. I have requested a congressional briefing for the entire region on Metro's safety and emergency response procedures. I know that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will do a thorough job investigating the incident and determining its cause. I expect that Metro will fully cooperate with NTSB's investigation and follow any subsequent recommendations, as they did following the 2009 Red Line accident."
