Norton to Attend Holder Swearing-in as D.C. Residents See Their Candidate Become U.S. Attorney General

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), who chose Eric Holder as the first African American U.S. Attorney General for the District of Columbia from a list of three recommended by her nominating commission, will attend Holder's swearing-in as the first African American Attorney General on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 10 a.m. at the U.S. Department of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, 5th floor conference room. Norton chose Holder from among candidates recommended to her by District residents whom she appointed when President Bill Clinton granted her senatorial courtesy to recommend the U.S. Attorney, District Court judges and the U.S. Marshal for the District of Columbia.
The Congresswoman said, "D.C. residents recommended our best and brightest, and President Clinton recognized these qualities in Eric Holder when I recommended him to the President. Now the new president has seen these qualities and more in choosing Eric Holder as Attorney General of the United States of America. Every resident of this city has reason to be proud today."
