Norton Begins Neighborhood Community Conversations on D.C. Voting Rights Next Steps
WASHINGTON, DC- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today will begin the first in a series of Norton in Your Neighborhood Community Conversations on D.C. voting rights next steps at the home of Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner 3D01 Elizabeth Sandza, and with Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner 2C01 Alexander Padro on Thursday, July 22, at Chatman's D'Vine Bakery & Café, 1239 9th St NW, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
This week's Norton in Your Neighborhood Community Conversations are the first in a series that the Congresswoman promised when a dangerous gun amendment delayed passage of the pending voting rights bill in April. While residents continue to contact Norton to pass the D.C. House Voting Rights Act, others also have sent suggestions on virtually every option, most of which Norton has previously introduced; however, all the options will be discussed. Residents may also raise other federal issues of interest such as the new healthcare bill, sections of which become effective in September, and the gun bill that has impeded the D.C. House Voting Rights Act.
"The best way to get feedback as we seek to work through the gun bill is to respond to residents' interest by offering a roadmap of where we were, over what terrain we have come, how we got to where we are today, and the way forward."
Norton, also released a summary of the bills that she has pursued for the District during her service, including bills for statehood, the House and Senate representation bill, and the pending D.C. House Voting Rights Act.
