Norton Begins Thanksgiving Season at Bread for the City

November 1, 2010

WASHINGTON, DC -- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will start the Thanksgiving season today at the Bread for the City Annual Holiday Helpings Kick-Off, from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m., at 1525 7th Street NW. Norton will help distribute food to some of the city's most vulnerable residents. This is the first of efforts Norton will be making during the holiday season due to special hardship the economy brings to the needy.

"The effects of the economy have left many District residents jobless and unable to provide healthful holiday meals for their families," said Norton. "Bread for the City provides an invaluable service by annually supplying more than 4,500 meals to some of the most vulnerable District residents, helping to limit the widespread effects of the recession."

Bread for the City is a not-for-profit organization that provides needy residents with comprehensive services, including food, clothing, medical care, and legal and social services.
