Norton Begins Working with House Leadership as Voting Rights Bill Proceeds through Congress

February 27, 2009

WASHINGTON, DC- Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) began meeting with House leadership today to assure an acceptable D.C. House Voting Rights bill. "Nothing in the bill was unanticipated or comes as a surprise," Norton said. "Yesterday was an extraordinary moment for the Senate leadership and the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, to whom we owe that victory. We anticipate the same in the House and in Conference, but like everything we have achieved in the District, it's always a matter of hard work - that work began this morning."
