Norton, Beyer to Host Media Availability After Their Meeting with U.S. Park Police Chief to Discuss Fatal Shooting of Bijan Ghaisar, Tomorrow
WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) and Congressman Don Beyer (D-VA) will host a media availability after they meet with U.S. Park Police Chief Robert MacLean tomorrow, Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at 3:00 p.m., in 2136 Rayburn House Office Building. Norton and Beyer will discuss the November 2017 shooting of 25-year-old Bijan Ghaisar by Park Police officers, which took place in Beyer's district. Norton and Beyer have both met with Bijan's parents, James and Kelly Ghaisar.
Norton is drafting legislation to require uniformed federal police officers, including Park Police officers, to wear body cameras and have dashboard cameras in marked vehicles, a step increasingly taken by local and state jurisdictions, including the District of Columbia and Fairfax County.
