Norton Bringing Government-to-Go to S.E. and N.W. Neighborhoods This Week and
Expanding Throughout the Year
August 28, 2007
Washington, DC-The Office of Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will continue her Government-to-Go initiative to bring services to people in the communities where they live at the Safeway at 1445 Alabama Avenue, SE today, Tuesday, August 28, 2007, and at the Giant at 1414 8th Street, NW on Thursday, August 30, from 5 to 7 PM on both days. Norton will be available between 6 and 6:30 PM. Staff will give assistance and advice on federal issues, from Social Security and veterans' benefits to Norton's $10,000 Tuition Assistance Grant Program (DCTAG) and $5,000 Homebuyer Tax Credit, and will offer help on accessing many other constituent services.
Norton kicked off Government-to-Go in May with a walking tour on 14th Street, NW to visit Latino businesses and talk with merchants before going to the Giant Food Store in Tivoli Square. (See photo at https://www.norton.house.gov/, Summer 2007 Newsletter). The May Giant kickoff was the first of several roving, community satellite offices she has set up for constituent and casework services for residents who may not visit her three offices because of transportation, family or work schedules, language difficulty, recent immigration to the city, disability or other personal impediments. Norton said, "We are very pleased by the enthusiastic response to Government-to-Go from residents and the warm welcome from merchants who have accommodated us in their businesses." She said that as a result, Government-to-Go will continue throughout the year and will add indoor community sites and outdoor locations as well.
