Norton Calls for Hearing on Ransomware Attacks and Risks to National Infrastructure

May 10, 2021

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), Chair of the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit, today called for a hearing on ransomware attacks and their potential risks to national infrastructure, in light of the recent ransomware attack on the Colonial Pipeline Co., which has impacted gasoline and jet fuel supply to the East Coast.

"This attack reveals how vulnerable our infrastructure is to cybercriminals around the world," Norton said. "We must probe this incident and the recent rise in ransomware attacks so that we may strengthen both the security and resiliency of our infrastructure."

Norton is a senior member on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
