Norton Calls New US Attorney to Congratulate Him on Confirmation 02/12/2010

WASHINGTON, DC – Following his Confirmation vote yesterday in the Senate, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today spoke with U.S. Attorney Ronald Machen, whom she recommended to President Barack Obama. She expects Machen to begin as U.S. Attorney next week. “I have every reason to believe that Ronald Machen will be a U.S. Attorney who will leave his signature on the office and who will make this city proud of his service,” Norton said.

Machen’s name was among a number of highly qualified candidates recommended to her by her Federal Law Enforcement Nominating Commission, chaired by Pauline Schneider, a former chair of the D.C. Bar and a partner at the law firm of Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe. Machen is a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School, and was a law clerk for Judge Damon J. Keith of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He formerly served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the office he will now lead, and he leaves the Washington Office of the law firm of WilmerHale to take his position as U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia.
