Norton Caseworkers and Community Education Group to Provide Free HIV Testing Wednesday Afternoon
Washington, D.C. – The Community Education Group will accompany Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton's (D-DC) "Government-to-Go" caseworkers to the Chartered Health parking lot located at 3924 Minnesota Ave. NE, from noon - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013. This week's Government-to-Go program, which is free and open to the public, will provide HIV testing through the Community Education Group's mobile unit. D.C.'s high HIV/AIDS rate, attributed to injection drug use, has fallen significantly since Norton got a rider banning D.C. from spending its local funds on needle-exchange programs removed.
Every week, Norton's caseworkers set-up in neighborhood locations such as grocery stores and senior centers as well as other neighborhood sites to help residents with federal matters, such as Social Security or veterans' benefits, on the spot. Government-to-Go caseworkers save residents a trip to one of Norton's offices and help residents better understand some of the benefits available to them, such as Norton's D.C. Tuition Assistance Grant (DCTAG) program, which gives D.C. students up to $10,000 annually for tuition at public colleges nationwide.
