Norton, CBC to Hold Press Availability Opposing Nominations of Thomas Farr and Eric Dreiband
WASHINGTON – On Thursday, January 18 at 9:40 AM ET, the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) – led by CBC Chairman Cedric L. Richmond (D-LA), CBC Judiciary Nominations Working Group Chair Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), and Congressman G. K. Butterfield (D-NC) – will host a press availability outside of 226 Dirksen Senate Office Building before the Senate Judiciary Committee votes on the nominations of Thomas Farr and Eric Dreiband.
President Trump nominated Farr to serve on the U.S. Direct Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina and Dreiband to serve as Assistant Attorney General of the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. In September 2017, the CBC sent letters to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Senate Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) strongly opposing the nominations of Farr and Dreiband, who are unqualified for the positions they're nominated for and have abysmal records on voting and civil rights. The letters are attached.
During the press availability, the CBC will also discuss the lack of diversity among President Trump's judicial nominees.
