Norton Census Day Rally with Census Bureau and D.C. Officials on Freedom Plaza
Thursday
WASHINGTON, DC - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), who sits on the subcommittee with jurisdiction over the U.S. Census, will join U.S. Census Bureau National Director Robert Groves, Census Bureau Philadelphia Regional Office Director Fernando Armstrong, and D.C. Councilman Michael A. Brown, Thursday, April 1, 11 a.m., Freedom Plaza, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave., NW for the National Census Day Rally to encourage residents to mail in their census forms, which began arriving in homes this month. "I am delighted by updates that already show a four percent increase in District residents since the last Census count," Norton said. "However, the increase in population will only show up in dollars to D.C. if previously under-counted, minority communities, especially Latino, African American, Asian residents, and our LGBT community are counted." The rally also will feature Greater Washington Urban League President Maudine R. Cooper, Latino Federation of Greater Washington Executive Director Rodrigo B. Leiva, and Office on Asian and Pacific Islander Affairs Executive Director Soohyun "Julie" Koo, encouraging participation.
