Norton Commission Accepting Applications for Upcoming Vacancy on the U.S. District Court for D.C.
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today announced that her Federal Law Enforcement Nominating Commission (Commission) is accepting applications for an upcoming vacancy on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly, whom Norton recommended to President Clinton, will take senior status upon the confirmation of her successor, creating an upcoming vacancy.
Applications are due to the Commission by 5:00 p.m. on December 21, 2021.
The application is available on Norton's website and must be submitted to DCFLENC@arentfox.com. Individuals who have previously submitted an application this year to the Commission for a vacancy on the U.S. District Court for D.C. do not need to submit an application for this upcoming vacancy. Instead, any such individuals interested in applying for this upcoming vacancy must submit a letter indicating they are applying, as well as any supplementary materials, to DCFLENC@arentfox.com by 5:00 p.m. on December 21, 2021.
President Biden, like Presidents Clinton and Obama, granted Norton senatorial courtesy to recommend candidates for federal district court judges and other important federal law enforcement officials in D.C. The Senate has already confirmed three people Norton recommended to Biden: Florence Pan and Jia Cobb for the U.S. District Court for D.C. and Matthew Graves for the U.S. Attorney for D.C.
The Commission screens and recommends candidates to Norton, who makes recommendations to Biden. The Commission is comprised of lawyers and non-lawyers from across the District.
