Norton Files Resolution Honoring Lunchtime Music on the Mall Program
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today released the text of the resolution she filed in the House, honoring Lunchtime Music on the Mall, sponsored by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority and the National Park Service, in conjunction with Norton. Her resolution acknowledges the work of NPS in bringing weekday activities to the mall, a provision of the Norton's "National Mall Revitalization and Designation Act" (H.R. 1972), which the NPS implemented administratively. The resolution also recognized the Mall as a national treasure, and a natural showcase for D.C. and regional musical acts. Lunchtime Music on the Mall benefits federal and other office workers, as well as the 20 million visitors who come to Washington each year.
Nicholas Wilson, a violinist, will perform classical music Tuesday, August 7, 2012, from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the National Mall, near the Smithsonian Metro station. The sponsors of Lunchtime Music on the Mall plan to bring music acts to the Mall every Tuesday and Thursday during the good weather months.
The text of Norton's resolution follows:
