Norton Gears Up for D.C. Vote March and for Congress Getting Back to Work on Vote Bill

Washington, DC—As the House is preparing to return from recess next week, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) today said that she is energized by events D.C. officials and citizens are holding on Monday, April 16th to push for the House vote bill. Norton will be a speaker at the Voting Rights March activities led by Mayor Adrian Fenty, DC Vote and other groups in a civil rights coalition. The events, which will take place on Emancipation Day, a District holiday, will include marchers gathering at 2:30 PM at Freedom Plaza (13th and Pennsylvania Ave., NW), proceeding at 3 PM along Pennsylvania Avenue, rallying at a program at 4 PM at the U.S. Capitol Reflecting Pool (3rd and Pennsylvania Ave., NW), and attending a “Push the Senate Reception” at 6:30 PM sponsored by Norton and Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT)in Room G-50 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building (1st and Constitution Avenue, NE).
“Monday’s events will combine for a day of celebration, as all who support full democracy for Americans living in the nation’s capital speak with one voice,” Norton said.
