Norton Gets Breakthrough to Bring D.C. Prisoners Closer to Home
Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) will announce today at a hearing on D.C. prisoners now housed in the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP), that BOP has agreed to a change Norton has been pressing for, the early return of prisoners from federal facilities to the D.C. jail 90 days from the expiration of their sentences, in order to allow access to reentry services and reduce recidivism rates. She will elaborate in her opening statement and question BOP Director Harley Lappin on the details.
