Norton Highlights Federal Opportunity Zones with Mayor Bowser, U.S. Senator Tim Scott

March 26, 2019

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) joined District of Columbia Mayor Muriel Bowser, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Brian Kenner, and U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) today to highlight federal Opportunity Zones legislation that Norton and Scott worked on together to ensure benefits would go to D.C. neighborhoods and businesses. Norton worked with Scott to ensure the District was covered in this bill since the District is not yet a state.

"When Senator Scott served in the House together, he and I became friends, and I appreciate his work now in the Senate on Opportunity Zones" Norton said. "Working together, we ensured that the District of Columbia was covered under the Opportunity Zones legislation, which can help channel significant investment to our neighborhoods that most need such an infusion. Assuring these investments where they are most needed is essential to revitalizing these neighborhoods."
